Community Career Connections Program-Ohio (C3PO)

Picture

The Program

The Community Career Connections Program (Ohio) provides students the opportunity to train and become certified to join the existing workforce. The Ohio Provider Resource Association saw a need in the community where the workforce was not growing at a rate fast enough to provide services to those who need them. This program helps provide career training and development to juniors and seniors while at the same time filling the void in the community. Franklin Heights High School was the first to pilot the program during the 2015-2016 school year and OPRA hopes to expand the program statewide. Twelve students entered the pilot program during their junior year at FHHS. The initial goal was to have half the participants in the program receive their Direct Support Partners Certificate of Initial Profieciency. As a result, all twelve received their credentials. Ten of the students returned for their senior year to recieve their Certificate of Advanced Proficiency.

Career Based Intervention Teacher, Drew Huber, stated, “When we can connect these kids to jobs, to the future, we are giving them a gift for the rest of their lives. I see them grow and mature, becoming very different people at the end of the school year. They develop self-confidence and have become part of something bigger than themselves."
