Direct Service Provider University
The Program
The DSPU Program provides students the opportunity to train and become certified to join the existing workforce. Direct Support Professionals help individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities live to the fullest by helping each person work through their challenges and capitalize on their strengths. The Ohio Provider Resource Association saw a need in the community where the workforce was not growing at a rate fast enough to provide services to those who need them. This program helps provide career training and development to seniors while at the same time filling the void in the community.

A Special Note and Video from Our Partners at Lighthouse Cove
"The video does a wonderful job highlighting the heart of the DSP-U program and features several individuals connected to your school, including your Teacher of Record, Ms. Autumn, who did an outstanding job representing both Westland High School and DSP-U. Her dedication and passion for supporting students truly shines through. We are also grateful to the students from last year’s program who shared their experiences and spoke so thoughtfully about what DSP-U is, what it entails, and the impact it had on them.
Your school’s commitment to utilizing DSP-U plays a critical role in helping students broaden their understanding of future career paths. By exploring the field of disabilities, students gain valuable real-world experience, develop empathy and leadership skills, and learn how meaningful and impactful a career supporting individuals with disabilities can be. For many students, this experience opens doors to career possibilities they may not have previously considered, while also empowering them to make a positive difference in the lives of others and in their own lives as well." --Becky Watson, Vice President of Operations at Lighthouse Cove
Students and Teacher of Records share their experience participating in DSP-U, offering insight into how the program works within schools and how it supports career exploration, skill development, and personal growth.
