Direct Service Provider University
The Program
The DSPU Program provides students the opportunity to train and become certified to join the existing workforce. Direct Support Progessionals help individuals with intellectual/develpmental disabilities live to the fullest by helping each person work through their challenges and capitalize on their strengths. The Ohio Provider Resource Association saw a need in the community where the workforce was not growing at a rate fast enough to provide services to those who need them. This program helps provide career training and development to seniors while at the same time filling the void in the community.
Career Based Intervention Teacher, Drew Huber, stated, “When we can connect these kids to jobs, to the future, we are giving them a gift for the rest of their lives. I see them grow and mature, becoming very different people at the end of the school year. They develop self-confidence and have become part of something bigger than themselves."
