Program Overview

Health Technologies: Pre-Nursing is a two-year program designed to prepare students for entry into a career in nursing and other nursing-focused or healthcare related careers. The curriculum includes: Medical Terminology, Patient Centered Care, Basic Nursing Skills, Mental Health, Nursing Pharmacology and Medical Math, Human Pathophysiology, and Diagnostics and Medical Intervention. Through articulation and College Credit Plus (CCP), students can earn postsecondary credit.

Junior students will be introduced to a broad overview of health sciences and career pathways as a result of a pre-nursing focus. Students will be trained in medical terminology, infection control, patient safety and interventions, fundamentals of basic nursing, personal care skills, mental health of patients, and therapeutic communication with patients and families. During the junior year, students will have the opportunity to become a Certified Nursing Assistant and qualify to test for a state regulated exam that will allow them to become an State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA). In addition, students will receive certification as a Mental Health Care Technician, and become CPR, First Aid, and OSHA certified.

Senior students will further strengthen their nursing knowledge by focusing on critical thinking, patient assessment, diagnostic and laboratory testing, and diagnosis and treatment. Students will be given the opportunity to work with nurses in the community to observe patient assessments and documentation, medication administration, wound care and treatments, and care team interaction.
