Project Search
Program Overview
Project SEARCH serves students who require additional skills training to meet post-secondary transition goals. The most important criterion for acceptance into Project SEARCH is a desire to achieve competitive employment. The program provides real-life work experience combined with training in employability and independent living skills to help interns make successful transitions from school to productive adult life.
Interns attend the program for a full school year at OhioHealth Doctors Hospital. The hospital provides access to an on-site classroom. Project SEARCH is staffed by a South-Western City School District teacher and one to three job coaches to meet the educational and training needs of the students.
Through a series of three targeted internships the students acquire competitive, marketable and transferable skills to enable them to apply for a related position. These internship rotations begin a few weeks after the start of the program. Interns spend approximately five hours each day at the internships including a thirty minute lunch. Through internships, interns acquire the core skills necessary to be hired in an entry-level position in the community.

Alumni Student
Colton Showalter,
Project SEARCH Alumni
Colton completed the Project SEARCH program in May of 2016. During his time at Project SEARCH, he made quite an impression on associates and administrators at Doctors Hospital. Shortly after graduation, Colton was offered a position in Food and Nutrition Department at Doctors Hospital. He works three days a week helping with stocking and general cleaning in the cafe. Colton recently received a STARS award at the hospital for showing initiative and giving a helping hand to help with a project the administrative office was completing in the cafeteria. Colton says that he loves coming to work and is saving his money to go to the Rose Bowl parade in January with his brother and the GCHS band.
