The Path to College and Career Readiness:
The New Career Tech

Remember how you viewed career tech when you were in high school? Everyone thought career tech was for kids who were not going to college, right? Did you know that’s all changed?

Today, a career tech education in high school is in many cases the first step of a successful college career. Students in the South Western City Schools Career Tech Education program graduate high school with up to 30 college credits already earned! But Career Tech also offers programs for students who want to go into a career right out of high school.

Either way, 99.9% of the students in the South Western City Schools Career Tech Education program get their high school diploma—a very impressive number compared to national averages and other central Ohio school districts. And, students who choose to attend the South-Western Career Academy can still participate in sports and activities at their home high school.

College Readiness

Career Readiness

Students in the Career Tech program know they’re getting a jump-start on their college career… selecting a path including business and management, industrial and engineering, or arts and communications.

Your student will also benefit from work-based experiences such as mentoring, field trips, and internships specific to their curriculum of study, as well as clubs and organizations that help develop leadership skills.
Some students want to start their careers immediately. Students in the Career Tech program are a step ahead of their peers… learning skills that will serve them well if they start work right after high school or choose to attend a technical school or four-year college for further qualification after high school.

If an immediate career is calling your child, Career Tech will launch them with work-based experiences such as mentoring, field trips, and internships specific to their curriculum of study, as well as clubs and organizations that help develop leadership and sought-after skills.

Help Your Child Find Their Path

Career and Technical Education is no longer just about teaching students a narrow set of skills suitable only for entry-level jobs… it is about preparing students for careers.

If your child talks about Career Tech, hear what they have to say. It’s a great way for a young person keep their options open for a successful career leading to a lifetime of fulfillment.
